Doxazosin is an alpha-blocker medication used to treat high blood pressure and the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate gland in men. It works by relaxing the muscles surrounding the bladder exit and prostate gland, which helps improve urine flow and relieve urinary symptoms such as frequent urination, difficulty urinating, and a weak urine stream. By blocking the action of certain chemicals in the body, doxazosin helps lower blood pressure and reduce the strain on the heart.
How to use?
The recommended dose is one tablet taken orally once a day. If you are starting this medication for the first time, the usual recommended dose is 1 mg taken orally daily. Your doctor may adjust the dose after a few weeks to 2 mg or 4 mg once daily. In certain cases, your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 8 mg once daily if you are being treated for prostate enlargement, or to a maximum of 16 mg if you are being treated for high blood pressure. Take the medicine in the morning or evening, consistently at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water, and you can take it with or without food.
